San Pedro in September is a town of celebrations and remembrance, of thinking back to our shared history and looking forward at the future.
Belize was born on September 21, 1981, and on that day each year we celebrate our independence. But before we get to that date, on September 10 each year we also celebrate a pivotal moment in our history from the late 1700s: the Battle of St. George’s Caye.
Of course, in true San Pedro fashion we never miss an opportunity for festivities, and celebrating history is no different. If you should find yourself in our neck of the woods – perhaps staying at a quaint and cute little pink hotel – we’d love to cheers some Belikens with you!
It’s the biggest event of the year in San Pedro – and there’s no place closer than Mayan Princess!
The countdown to the 2017 International Costa Maya Festival is on, and as always, our little pink hotel will be right in heart of the action. There is just no hotel more perfectly-located to take advantage of all the festivities – with the added bonus of every unit featuring an ocean view and the best beach in San Pedro right outside.
The festival begins on August 3 and runs until August 7, with every day filled to the brim with dancing, dining, drinking, and of course, pageants.
Who will be the next Miss Costa?
But you can at Mayan Princess.
Our pretty in pink hotel has everything you need for a comfortable stay, complete with incredible ocean views, a pristine white sandy beach out front, and the perfect location right in the heart of San Pedro. Around us you can find every amazing amenity you need for an amazing vacation, from fantastic food and drink next door to adventurous excursions leaving from the dock outside.
You can still have it all at Mayan Princess – and you can have it at a reasonable price!
There’s always something new brewing at Mayan Princess.
Sometimes that means upgrades, like our recently-updated granite countertops with built-in stoves, replacing the white tile our guests became familiar with over the years.
Our guests are also enjoying updated air conditioning units in the rooms. They’re quieter, more energy efficient, and an important component for a comfortable stay on Ambergris Caye.
On the beach out front you may notice that we also have a new dock. Like many around the island, our old dock was lost during Hurricane Earl last year – but we have a new one, perfect for launching off on a new adventure or spending a lazy day with your feet in the water.
Be sure to check out what’s new during your next visit!
There are several ways to make Mayan Princess your home for an unforgettable stay on Ambergris Caye, with Early Bird rates offering 10% off if you book at least two months out, and seasonal specials offering 15% off if you book and travel within specific windows.
And if you’re looking for a free stay, there’s always the Mayan Princess Hotel Newsletter Contest. Every year we give away four two-night stays – one each quarter – and the only thing you need to do to enter the contest is sign up for our mailing list!

Happy Garifuna Settlement Day!
Today isn’t just another holiday – it’s a celebration of human rights in memory of Thomas Vincent Ramos, one of our most beloved civil rights activists, who passed in 1955.
Since 1943 we’ve recognized this holiday in some form or another, but it wasn’t until 1977 that it officially became a national holiday that we celebrate each year on November 19.
While you are out enjoying all that Belize has to offer today – the beaches, the waves, the jungles, the food and drink – take a moment to recognize and acknowledge how blessed we all are to live where we live. Belize is beautiful not just because of our surroundings, but because of the freedoms we all celebrate together.
Time to get out and enjoy some sun. Happy Garifuna Settlement Day, everyone – we’ll see you at the beach!
