The holidays are just around the corner, but first we have Garifuna Settlement Day!<\/p>\n
The national holiday is celebrated on November 19th<\/sup>, commemorating when the Garifuna people arrived on the shores of Belize in 1802. After being displaced by the British they sought refuge on our shores, and they\u2019ve added greatly to Belize\u2019s cultural mosaic ever since.<\/p>\n A mixed indigenous people, the Garifuna have a unique language, dance, music, and dishes.
