The Hol Chan Marine Reserve

Once travel resumes and you can return to Belize, don’t miss out on visiting perhaps the most stunning natural attraction in the country – the Hol Chan Marine Reserve.

Located on approximately 11 square miles of stunning coral reefs, seagrass beds, and mangrove forest, Hol Chan is just off the coast of Ambergris Caye. Mayan for “little channel”, Hol Chan has some of the most breathtaking snorkelling and diving in the Caribbean. It is broken into four “zones”, with Zone A and Zone D being the most popular for tourists to visit.

Zone A mostly covers the Hol Chan Cut, a natural break in the barrier reef. Here, visitors can swim in shallow waters of the coral reef with over 160 different species of fish, as well as different species of sea turtles, eels, dolphins, rays, and even the West Indian Manatee (Trichechus manatus). Zone D is fondly called “Shark Ray Alley”, as it is a gathering place for nurse sharks (Ginglymostoma cirratum) and southern stingrays (Hypanus americanus). Watching and sometimes even touching the wild creatures provides tourists with a unique experience to connect with sea life.

Amigos Del Mar Dive Shop located at our hotel would be happy to arrange a trip to Hol Chan Reserve next time you come to visit. Get ready for the experience of a lifetime!
