There are many treasures and wonders of Belize, but there is perhaps one diving wonder stands above the rest: The Great Blue Hole.
Made famous by world-renown explorer Jacques Cousteau in 1971, Lighthouse Reef (aka ‘The Blue Hole’ or ‘The Great Blue Hole’) is an atoll with a unique geological anomaly: a 300m (984ft) circular submarine sinkhole that plunges down 108m (354ft). It is a diving/snorkeling site almost as famous as Cousteau himself.
If you’re a diver, it’s not just a bucket list dive – it’s what dives are made of. It’s completely unique, it’s challenging (not for beginners), and it’s full of life. The Blue Hole is part of the Belize Barrier Reef system, boasting hundreds of species of fish, coral, and invertebrate.
And the best part? If you want to dive this Diving Wonder of the World, one of the easiest ways possible is to stay with us in San Pedro! Amigos Del Mar is right outside our doors and Lighthouse Reef is close by – it truly doesn’t get much easier than this!
