Happy Garifuna Settlement Day!
Today isn’t just another holiday – it’s a celebration of human rights in memory of Thomas Vincent Ramos, one of our most beloved civil rights activists, who passed in 1955.
Since 1943 we’ve recognized this holiday in some form or another, but it wasn’t until 1977 that it officially became a national holiday that we celebrate each year on November 19.
While you are out enjoying all that Belize has to offer today – the beaches, the waves, the jungles, the food and drink – take a moment to recognize and acknowledge how blessed we all are to live where we live. Belize is beautiful not just because of our surroundings, but because of the freedoms we all celebrate together.
Time to get out and enjoy some sun. Happy Garifuna Settlement Day, everyone – we’ll see you at the beach!
